Volunteer Opportunities

Committees will meet 4-6 times per year. Some meetings may be held via conference call.

 

Governance: Goals: 1) By-laws reviewed and rewritten in accordance with SBA recommendations and Best Practices for non-profits ,  2) Review Governance section of IRS form 990 and identify areas of exposure and communicate them to the Board with recommendations for resolution,  3) Identify and nominate new Board members,  4) Review SBAGNE’s policies and procedures.  Identify potential exposures in policies and procedures and communicate them to the SBAGNE Board of Directors, along with recommendations for resolution.  Ensure policies/procedures are properly documented (in writing) and in accordance with SBAGNE By-laws, SBA Affiliation requirements, best business practices, etc,  6) Ensure Board/Constituents/Donors are well informed in SBAGNE operations so that they can make informed decisions and/or make suggestions to the Organization for improvement/change. 7) Ensure Board of Directors maintain and evaluate progress against Strategic Plan and Program/organization effectiveness in accordance with SBA affiliation requirements. 8) Ensure SBAGNE is up to date with public filings.

               

Development: Goals: 1)Review  and make recommendations regarding the existing fundraising efforts 2)  Develop a 5 year Development Plan to include new  revenue streams so that SBAGNE may sustain and enhance services , 3) Collaborate with SBAGNE staff and SBA regarding development efforts.  Meetings 4-6 times per year.

 

 Finance: Goals: 1) Develop Budget 5-10 yr strategy for growth and stability 2) Design and implement investment policy , 3) Design and implement annual budgeting process,  4) Review accounting procedures and make recommendations for any needed changes.

 

 Audit: Goals: 1) Responsible for reviewing SBAGNE's Annual Audit and the suitability and effectiveness of its external auditor. 2) The Audit Committee will meet with the external auditor to review and evaluate the national audit and the consolidated audited financial reports. 3) The Committee will discuss the report prepared by the auditors discussing any weakness in internal control and whether management has taken appropriate action on the recommendations of the auditor. 4) The Committee will report all findings to the Board of Directors. The Audit Committee will also serve as the resource for the organization's Whistleblower Policy.

 

Programming: Goals: 1) Provide events to include social, recreational and educational for all sbaMass constituents.  2) Maintain SBAGNE Annual events i.e.: Holiday Party, Summer Picnic. Meeting 6 times per year.

 

Adult Clinic: Goals: 1) the committee will be developed to include 6 members.   2) Research existing SB Adult clinics in the US 3) Develop timeframe and objectives for the project, 4) develop relationships with like organizations to collaborate on effort.   Meeting 6 times per year.

 

Walk N Roll: Assist in the planning and implementation of the 2nd Annual Walk N Roll.  This event is both a fund raising event as well as a social event for members of the SB community, their families and friends.  Volunteers are needed for event logistics, developing sponsorship opportunities, supporting Walk Teams and individuals.

 

 NE Area Spina Bifida Conference:  SBAGNE is collaborating with SBA of CT for a regional conference to be held on October 1, 2011 in Sturbridge Mass.  Volunteers are needed to assist on day of event with registration, kid’s camp, monitoring sessions.
